Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Apprentice include but are not limited to servicing, inspecting, repairing and performing mechanical maintenance to an aircraft before it is considered airworthy.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

This position is responsible and accountable for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Performing Scheduled and Unscheduled maintenance on aircraft.
  • Marshalling and towing aircraft.
  • Reconfiguring aircraft interiors from passenger to cargo to medivac.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Work indicated by supervisor.

Personal Characteristics

  • Mechanical aptitude, trainable
  • Strong knowledge of basic hand tools
  • Ability to respond in a controlled and quick manner in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Professional, responsive and respectful with a positive work attitude and a high level of commitment to on-time performance are essential
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations and provide sound judgment
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a Ministry of Transportation approved/accredited Aircraft Maintenance Program
  • 1-2 years of experience working as an AME is preferred
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven time management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to qualify for WAA (Winnipeg Airport Authority security clearance)
  • Aboriginal Awareness and/or Cultural Diversity Training

Working Conditions

  • Work in a shop environment with full range of movement (flexibility) required
  • Extended periods of standing, crouching, and kneeling in an aircraft, and in aircraft work in crouched and confining positions
  • Fast-paced environment
  • Constraining deadlines
  • Repetitive tasks
  • Periods of heavy lifting up to a maximum of 100lbs
  • 7 on/7 off
  • This position has the potential of either day (12 AM to 12 PM) or night (12 PM to 12 AM) shift as required
