Bereavement Travel

Bereavement Travel

Bearskin Airlines provides Bereavement Fares for passengers who must fly due to the death or imminent death of an immediate family member. Bereavement fares do not apply to travel-related or non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses.

Bereavement Fares are designed to offer maximum flexibility for those traveling under urgent family circumstances, although they may not always represent the lowest fares available.

How To Book

A reservation for a bereavement fare must be made through the Customer Service Centre. Bereavement fares cannot be booked online.

When making your reservation, be prepared to provide additional information, including the reason for travel and the relationship between the traveller and the deceased.

Please note that Bereavement Fares are not applicable for travel on partner airlines.

Restrictions

Our bereavement policy applies to:

  • Immediate family members: includes spouse, child, parent, sibling, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, and grand parents.
  • Scheduled passenger flights operated by Bearskin Airlines.
  • Bereavement travel must take place within 10 days of booking and that does not exceed 60 days.

Our bereavement policy does not apply to:

  • Requests for bereavement consideration after travel has been completed.

Booking Requirements

When you contact us to make a reservation under our bereavement fare, we will need specific information regarding the dying or deceased family member and your relationship to them. Additionally, you will need to provide:

Memorial or Funeral Service Information:

  • Phone number of the memorial or funeral home, or other service location.
  • Name of the contact person at the service location who can verify these details.
  • Name of the Passenger Service Agent who authorized the Compassionate Travel, including the time and date of authorization.

Medical Confirmation:

  • Name and telephone number of the attending physician or other health care professional who can confirm the patient’s condition, or the health care facility where the patient is being treated.
  • Name of the health care professional who verified the patient’s condition, along with details of their position (e.g., physician, nurse).
  • Name of the Passenger Service Agent who authorized the Compassionate Travel, including the time and date of authorization.

Upon Return

Within 7 days of returning from your bereavement travel, please send an email to reservations@perimeter.ca with your booking reference in the subject line. Attach one of the following supporting documents to verify the bereavement or imminent death:

  • A copy of the death certificate
  • A statement from the funeral director
  • A statement from the coroner
  • A registration of death issued by a provincial government
  • A letter from the treating physician on official letterhead and/or a prescription pad that clearly states the situation involved the imminent death of an immediate family member

Failure to provide these documents within the specified timeframe may result in the regular fare price being charged and the denial of any bereavement rebate.

Please note that the email address provided is exclusively for submitting documentation. It should not be used for inquiries or requests for bereavement considerations after travel has been completed.
