Special Baggage

We understand the importance of your essential items and are committed to accommodating them. Our goal is to ensure a seamless travel experience tailored just for you.

Child Equipment

Lap-held infant

One piece of child/infant equipment (infant restraint system, playpen or stroller) are permitted at no charge and can be checked at the gate as you board. No substitutions, (e.g. a wagon or stroller wagon), are permitted.

Perimeter Aviation/Bearskin Airlines only allow infant and child restraint systems approved by Transport Canada to be used on board the aircraft. For details on non-acceptable and acceptable infant and child restraint systems, please see approved restraint systems (car seats).

Fare-paying child/infant

Fare-paying children are permitted regular baggage allowance.

Infant Casket Care

Travelling during such difficult times can be emotionally challenging. Our team is committed to providing compassionate support to ensure your journey is as smooth and respectful as possible.

To deliver the utmost care of your loved one, we kindly request the following:

  • To carry-on infant caskets, it must be 12 x 12 x 24 inches (30 x 30 x 61 cm) or smaller.
  • They must be sealed prior to travel and remain sealed during travel.

If the casket is oversized, you may carry it to the aircraft door where our staff will then securely stow it in the hold for the duration of the flight. Nothing is permitted on top of the casket with the exception of flowers.

We encourage all those travelling with an infant casket to pre-board. This allows time for the appropriate procedures to be completed and that the utmost care and respect is delivered.

If you need to make arrangements for an infant casket, or have any questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service Centre.

Medical Equipment and Medication

We recommend that whenever your medical equipment fits within the carry-on baggage dimensions you take it as carry-on baggage. Medication should be packed in your personal item. Although we do not charge a fee for medical equipment, most portable medical devices (PMEDs) must be approved for air travel as they contain batteries which are classified as dangerous goods.

Please review the Accessibility Services page well in advance of when you intend to travel to be sure these items arrive safely.

Musical Instruments

Small musical instruments

You’re welcome to bring small musical instruments on board as part of your carry-on luggage, provided they meet the carry-on size and weight requirements. Throughout the flight, your instrument should be securely stowed in the overhead bin, under the seat, or in another approved location.

Checking your musical instrument

For instruments too large to fit in the cabin, your item may also be accepted as carry-out or checked baggage. Musical instruments must be packed in a hard-sided case for protection. If packed in a soft-sided case or are not packaged securely, we require passengers to sign a Limited Release Tag, indemnifying Perimeter Aviation of any liabilities. Checked baggage size and weight allowances apply.

Taking a stringed-instrument with you?

When traveling with a stringed instrument like a guitar, it’s important to loosen the strings before your journey. This precaution helps to minimize the risk of damage to the headstock due to changes in temperature and air pressure during flight.

Flying with a partner airline?

Please note, musical instrument policies may vary across airlines. If your journey includes a flight operated by a carrier other than Perimeter or Bearskin, we encourage you to check the respective airline’s website for their specific policies, fees, and terms and conditions of carriage.

Sacred and Spiritual Items

We understand the significance of your sacred and spiritual items and are committed to handling them with the utmost respect and care during your journey with us.

We recommend that passengers refrain from packing delicate or fragile sacred items as checked baggage. Whenever possible, keep these items with you as carry-on baggage to ensure their safety.

Common examples of sacred or spiritual items include, but are not limited to: beads, ceremonial pipes or sticks, clothing, drums, headdresses, holy water or oil, kara, kirpan, medicine pouches, powders and granular materials, plants, prayer fabrics, sage, talking sticks, or tobacco.

If you are travelling with a sacred or spiritual item, please inform our Customer Service Agents during check-in. They will follow carry-on baggage acceptance procedures to ensure your items travel safely, securely, and with the utmost respect. We also encourage you to notify our Customer Service Centre in advance of travel or when making your reservation.

The following procedures for sacred and spiritual items are important to note:

  • If you are travelling with a healing bundle that includes sharps, it is only permitted in carry-on if it is 6 cm or smaller. It must also have the appropriate accompanying documentation which is filled out at the time of check-in. Sharps larger than 6 cm must be in your checked baggage.
  • If you are travelling with an oversized sacred or spiritual item, please inform our Customer Service Agent at the time of check-in. They will coordinate with the flight crew to ensure space is allocated on board. We invite you to pre-board your flight to ensure sufficient time to stow your item.
  • If you have specific preferences regarding how your items are handled during security screening, please see our Security page for information.

Sporting Equipment

Fishing equipment, golf clubs, and other sporting equipment must be securely packed in a hard-shell case designed for shipping.

If packed differently, these items will be accepted with a Limited Release Tag only, which must be signed at check-in, indemnifying Perimeter Aviation/Bearskin Airlines for any damage that may be caused.

All sporting equipment is subject to the Baggage Allowance weight and size restrictions. View the Restricted and Prohibited Items for a full list of permitted sporting equipment.

Wheelchairs and Assistive Devices

When traveling with a personal wheelchair, mobility aid, or medical device, you can bring one such item at no extra charge, beyond the standard baggage allowance.
