Our commitment to strict regulations ensures that every item in transit adheres to applicable laws, guaranteeing the well-being of our passengers, crew, and the environment.

Shipping Guidelines

To meet performance expectations and current regulatory and security control requirements, Perimeter Cargo adheres to a rigorous goods acceptance process. All shipments must meet and follow all applicable guidelines which includes but is not limited to applicable Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, and IATA regulations.

Shipper’s Responsibility

As the shipper, you play a pivotal role in compliance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Transport Canada Dangerous Goods regulations. Adherence to regulations stipulated by the country of origin, transit, and destination is imperative for the safety of all.

Before any consignment of dangerous goods takes to the skies, shippers are obligated to fulfill the following responsibilities:

Compliance with International Regulations:

Shippers must fully adhere to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Transport Canada Dangerous Goods regulations to guarantee the safety of passengers and crew.

Checks for Prohibited Items:

Shippers are responsible for ensuring that the articles or substances offered for transportation are not prohibited for air transport.

Proper Identification and Documentation:

Articles or substances must be meticulously identified, classified, packed, marked, labelled, and documented, in additional to meeting the conditions for transport as per IATA regulations.

Perimeter Aviation places immense importance on the proactive engagement of our shippers in fulfilling these responsibilities. By adhering to these guidelines, we collectively contribute to a safer and more secure air transportation environment.

Declaring Dangerous Goods

It is your responsibility as the shipper to determine if dangerous goods are in your cargo and if so to declare them to Perimeter Aviation by properly completing an IATA Shipper’s Declaration form. Not declaring dangerous goods is a serious offence under federal law and is the shipper’s responsibility.

Certain items, due to their nature, require special attention and handling. To prioritize safety and compliance, the items categorized as dangerous goods must be packaged and handled according to Transport Canada dangerous goods regulations. These items include:

  • Corrosives
  • Poisons
  • Radioactive Materials
  • Compressed Gases
  • Sporting Ammunition
  • Explosives
  • Toxic & Infectious Substances
  • Oxidizing Materials & Organic Products

Summary Conviction:

For a first offence, individuals are subject to a fine up to $50,000. Subsequent offences carry a steeper penalty, with fines up to $125,000.

Indictable Offence:

In cases deemed more serious, the offence becomes indictable, leading to potential imprisonment for a term of up to two years.

Any undeclared dangerous good that is found during a search or scan of a package must be held for future inspection by Transport Canada. These items may or may not be returned to you at Transport Canada’s discretion.
