Daniel’s passion for aviation began long before he ever stepped into a cockpit. Growing up in Israel, he was fascinated by operating complex machines through simulation games. That interest quickly became something more when he discovered Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.
“I immediately fell in love with aviation and spent countless hours learning everything I could. It was far more than a game; it was my introduction to aviation,” Daniel reflects.
Determined to turn his passion into a career, Daniel began working at age 13 to save money for flight simulation equipment. At 14, he immersed himself in online flight training studying aerodynamics, navigation, regulations, and aircraft systems. His dedication earned him leadership roles as an instructor and eventually Head Instructor, teaching aspiring aviators from around the world.
By 16, Daniel had also helped establish an International Virtual Aviation Organization (IVAO) division in Israel, serving as its director. Through these experiences, he developed leadership skills, discipline, and the importance of continuous learning.
Daniel always knew he wanted to become a pilot, but the path was not straightforward. After not being selected for the Air Force pilot program, he completed four years of service in the Navy before beginning formal flight training. To fund his aviation goals, he worked in the high-tech sector while earning additional licenses and ratings.
A conversation with a former Perimeter Aviation captain would eventually change the course of his career. Inspired by stories of flying in northern Canada, Daniel made the bold decision to move to Winnipeg in 2020.
“Many people thought I was making a mistake. The COVID-19 pandemic had just begun, and there was so much uncertainty about the future. But I never questioned my decision because I knew what I wanted to achieve,” Daniel recalls.
After arriving in Canada, Daniel converted his pilot license, completed his Canadian ratings, and earned his Flight Instructor Rating. He spent a year instructing before moving on to fly as a Piper Navajo Captain throughout Northern Manitoba. He later transitioned into medevac operations as a King Air 90/200 Captain and Training Captain, combining his passion for flying with mentoring other pilots.
When Daniel and his wife were expecting their first child, he decided it was time for a new chapter, one that would provide both professional fulfillment and greater stability for his growing family. He joined Perimeter Aviation as a direct-entry Dash 8 Captain and, six months later, became a Training Captain.
For Daniel, joining Perimeter Aviation wasn’t just about flying a larger aircraft; it was about becoming part of something meaningful.
“After spending the last four years flying throughout northern Manitoba, the North has become my second home. I’ve seen firsthand how important reliable air transportation is for remote Indigenous communities. Knowing that every flight helps connect people with healthcare, essential supplies, family, and the outside world gives the work a real sense of purpose.” Daniel shares.
Throughout his career, Daniel’s father always encouraged him to aim higher. When Daniel became a flight instructor, his father asked when he would start flying twin-engine aircraft. When he moved to a twin, the question became when he would fly turbine aircraft.
After several years apart, he finally brought his parents to Canada for a visit and showed them the Dash 8 he now flies. For Daniel, the lesson was clear, there is always another goal to pursue and another opportunity to grow.
To many pilots, the best part of the job is the view from the cockpit; Daniel finds the greatest fulfillment elsewhere. He says, “The views are great and operating an airplane is fun, but what I enjoy most is that every day presents a new challenge. No two flights are exactly the same”.
For anyone considering a similar aviation career, Daniel’s advice is “Never stop learning. Earning your licenses isn’t the end of your education, it’s only the beginning.” He also encourages aspiring pilots to strive for excellence and not give up when obstacles arise. “There will be setbacks, disappointments, and moments when your goal feels out of reach. But if you’re patient, and committed, opportunities will come.” Daniel shares.
