Meet The Crew

Employee Spotlight: Jonah Lacasse

by Perimeter Aviation 3 min read

Sometimes it’s the little moments that ignite lifelong passions. For Jonah, one of our Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs), that’s exactly how his desire for a career in aviation began. During family trips to Toronto there was always time set aside to plane watch from a nearby park. It was something he always looked forward to, saying,

Feeling that raw power, the noise, and the rumble of the planes as they soared just a few feet above our heads was the most amazing feeling I’ve ever experienced in my life.

It’s a tradition he’s continued with his daughter, passing the torch onto a hopeful future AME.

Keeping his eyes on the prize, Jonah attended Canadore College Aviation Technician program. He began a full-time apprenticeship with Air Creebec after his first semester, and fulfilled all accreditation requirements after four years. Afterwards, he challenged the Transport Canada Exams and then the Transport Canada CARS exam, passing all and earning his AME License. Over the years, Jonah has gained hands-on experience with a wide range of aircraft, from Cessna 150s to Boeing 737s, holding a special fondness for the De Havilland Dash 8 series. He’s both participated in and led accredited courses across provinces.

With a desire to educate and share the importance of aircraft maintenance, Jonah brought his work to social media. Over the past two years, he’s connected with many apprentices through posts like his Maintenance Monday series and even inspired others to start sharing their own AME content. Demonstrating the reliability and safety of our aircraft is what drives him, and if he can help even one person feel more comfortable in the skies, that’s a win.

Having a new challenge every day is one of the reasons Jonah loves what he does.

I am always learning something new, always finding solutions to roadblocks I may encounter, and that I get to do this with a fantastic team behind me!

His team in Timmins is another part of the job he truly values. He’s proud to work with a team that supports one another like a blended family, all striving toward the same goals. He adds that the collective motto,

Happy Pilots, Happy Aircraft Maintenance Engineers,

continues to ring true and drives the success of his team.

When asked why he chose Perimeter, Jonah shared that it was the opportunity for growth and leadership that drew him in. Being offered the position of AME Crew Chief was a goal he long aspired for, having the opportunity to grow and lead a strong team. Now with three years under his belt, he’s proud of the team he’s built and what they’ve achieved, and he’s excited to see what they’ll accomplish next.

Perimeter took a chance on me, and I will be forever thankful for this opportunity.

For anyone wanting to pursue a career in aviation, Jonah’s advice is simple,

Just do it, quit hesitating. Your time is now!

He goes on to say,

It might seem intimidating or difficult, but this industry is full of wonderful, talented, and passionate individuals who all have the same goals and aspirations of aviation as I do

Through Jonah’s 13-year career, he’s made a lasting impact, and we’re proud to have him as part of our team. We can’t wait to watch the great things he’ll continue to accomplish, and experience and value he brings to the team.
