New Heavy Check Department Launched

by Perimeter Aviation 3 min read

On March 2, 2026, Perimeter Aviation took an important step forward with the launch of its new Heavy Check department, an expansion designed to strengthen aircraft reliability, operational resilience, and long-term sustainability across the fleet.

For an airline, heavy checks are among the most comprehensive maintenance events an aircraft undergoes. They involve deep inspections, structural work, system overhauls, and extensive planning to ensure aircraft continue operating safely and efficiently. By bringing this capability in-house, Perimeter Aviation is strengthening its oversight of inventory, scheduling, and long-range maintenance planning while building greater control over how and when this critical work is done.

But this launch is about more than maintenance capability. It’s about people, growth, and building something new together.

A New Capability, Built by a Strong Team

The new department is led by Prashant Desai, Director of Heavy Maintenance, and will initially support the entry of a new Dash-8 aircraft into service. Over time, the team will expand its capacity as the operation grows and the fleet continues to evolve.

Joey Petrisor, President and CEO of Perimeter Aviation said,

This is a pivotal step in building a more sustainable and resilient operation. By bringing heavy checks in-house and investing in a dedicated team, we are strengthening our ability to deliver safe, reliable service while creating growth opportunities for our maintenance workforce.

For Perimeter Aviation, investing in maintenance capability has always been part of the long-term vision. The airline operates in some of Canada’s most demanding environments, supporting communities across northern Manitoba and Ontario with passenger, cargo, charter, and medevac air services. Reliability and safety are essential to the communities that depend on these connections every day.

Welcome to the Team

With the launch of the Heavy Check department, we are also proud to welcome the newest members of the Perimeter Aviation team.

Starting a new department means building something from the ground up. That takes expertise, commitment, and a shared belief in doing things the right way. Every person joining this team is helping shape how the department will operate for years to come.

We succeed by working together, supporting one another, and taking pride in the work we do.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the Heavy Check department is just the beginning. As the program develops, Perimeter Aviation expects the team to grow significantly. In fact, our goal is to more than double the size of the department as capacity expands and additional aircraft enter the maintenance program.

That means we are actively looking for talented professionals who want to help build something meaningful. Opportunities include aircraft maintenance, planning, and leadership roles. For those considering joining the team, this is a chance to be part of something from the start, to help build a department, develop new capabilities, and shape the future of maintenance at Perimeter Aviation. Through continued investment in people, infrastructure, and technical expertise, Perimeter Aviation remains committed to safety, operational excellence, and long-term service to the communities that rely on us every day. We succeed by working together, supporting one another, and taking pride in the work we do.

Together, we soar.
