Perimeter’s Newly Expanded Winnipeg Terminal to Strengthen Northern Ties

by Perimeter Aviation 3 min read

Perimeter Aviation was honoured to unveil our brand-new terminal in Winnipeg on March 20. A bold step forward in our 65-year journey of serving northern and remote communities across Manitoba and Ontario, the terminal is more than a building, it’s a symbol of our continued investment in the people and places we proudly serve.

For decades, Perimeter Aviation has been a partner and essential link between First Nations communities and critical services. Whether it’s transporting loved ones, delivering vital supplies, or ensuring timely access to healthcare, our work is rooted in, respect, safety, and care. With a 21,743 square feet expansion, this new terminal is designed to improve flight operations, increase cargo capacity, and elevate the passenger experience—all while embracing inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability.

At the Grand Opening of the new terminal, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) Grand Chief Garrison Settee said, “This new terminal isn’t just about larger buildings or more flights, it’s about maintaining a vital link that connects communities to family, healthcare, and opportunities, We are grateful for this investment, which strengthens our cultural and economic ties and makes a meaningful difference for people in the North.”

The terminal includes three gates, improved baggage systems, and upgraded security screening. Amenities include a restaurant accessed before and after security, powered seating, and Indigenous artwork celebrating the vibrant cultures of the northern regions. These enhancements ensure passengers feel welcomed, respected, and valued from the moment they arrive.

Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs’ (AMC) Grand Chief, Kyra Wilson also shared her support during the Grand Opening, stating, “The expansion of Perimeter Aviation’s terminal is a welcomed investment in northern connectivity. Reliable transportation remains a cornerstone for First Nations. We acknowledge this step forward and emphasize the importance of ongoing collaboration with First Nations to continue to improve accessibility and affordability for those who have long sustained and shaped this vital network.”

The newly expanded Winnipeg terminal was made possible in part with the support of the Government of Canada, which invested $9.5 million through the National Trade Corridors Fund. The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Transportation and Internal Trade, emphasized how this investment will enhance connectivity, drive economic growth, and strengthen regional supply chains; especially for First Nations communities.

More than a building, this terminal is a promise to keep serving, listening, and growing with the communities that have trusted us for over six decades. The terminal sets a new standard for best-in-class Northern travel across Manitoba and Ontario.

Welcome to the future of northern travel.
